Cosmoderm, Cosmoplast, Restylane, Jurederm, and Radiesse

The newest filler to be approved by the FDA is called Jurederm. Like Restylane it is non-animal derived hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that exists naturally in the body. Its most important function is to bind and carry water. Non-animal, stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) does not contain animal protein and does not require a skin test prior to treatment. Allergic reactions are rare, redness and tenderness can occur at the site of the injections. The manufacturer claims the results will last up to a year. Because the substance is water loving, as the injectable breaks down the area is filled with water which gives a slightly longer lasting look. Treatment takes less than 40 minutes. Both Restylane and jurederm can last up to 6 months.

One of the types of collagen filler we use at Saving Face, LLC is called Cosmoderm or Cosmoplast. It is derived from recombinant human material and therefore no pre-test is required. Collagen fillers last up to 6 months depending on where the filler has been placed. Treatment takes less than 40 minutes. It contains a small amount of lidocaine, to numb the area being injected. If you are allergic to lidocaine( the same medicine used by dentists to numb your teeth) then you can not use any type of collagen, as they all contain some lidocaine in their mixture.

Radiesse is now FDA approved for facial use, it is used for other purposes as well as a facial filler very successfully. It is a paste of Calcium Hydroxylapatite ( a substance found in bone and teeth). It is reported to last for 5 years with little risk of allergic reactions. There can be clumping, lump formation, and granulomas. Although not frequently seen, it can migrate to other areas of the body.

Facial Fillers can correct deep folds between your nose and the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). It can be used to emphasize and enlarge your lips or to lessen “bleeding lines” around your lips. It can also fill acne scars among other uses.
